I also currently have other Meissen & Sevres with very similar hand-painted pattern & other fine porcelain listed! Meissen German Porcelain Marks (For Reference Only - Not For Sale Here) Meissen porcelain started in Dresden, Germany in 1709, by Johann Friedrich Bottger, under the sponsorship of Augustus the Strong, (Augustas Rex), the elector of Saxony.
In June of that same year a royal porcelain factory in Meissen (commissioned by Augustas), was completed, and the operation was transferred from Dresden to Meissen. Bottger continued to sell the red stoneware from the Meissen Manufactury until he perfected his formula for white porcelain in 1713, at which time all Meissen production switched to the new porcelain formula. Meissen used a variety of factory and makers marks from its inception, but the famous crossed-swords didnt become the official Meissen mark until 1722-23.
Since 1722-23, and to this day, the crossed-swords Meissen mark has always been a hand-painted blue under-glaze mark. I also currently have other Meissen & other fine porcelain listed! This incredibly well preserved museum piece is a true time capsule! This pattern very closely matches a Sevres piece from same estate collection positively dated to 1770 also listing at same time as this. That piece has the date mark so it helps to date the Meissen to the earlier period of c. 1815 for the crossed swords mark.
These pieces tell the story of how the French & Germans competed with each other in the Porcelain business! This Dinner Plate measures 1" inches tall X 9.5" wide & is in nearly perfect flawless condition, with the exception of a tiny minor fleabite ding to the extreme outer rim gold trim area only that is very shallow & not very noticeable. Otherwise some expected age wear to the outer rim gold trim paint, with no other flaws. No flower is exactly the same. All hand painted with no decals.
